Children's author Oliver Sykes has replied to over 1,000 emails meant for Bring Me The Horizon's lead vocalist
A children's author who shares his name with Bring Me The Horizon's Oli Sykes has revealed he's responded to more than 1,000 emails intended for the lead singer.
On Sunday (19 February) Metro shared a new piece written by children's author Oliver Sykes, who revealed that he was once overwhelmed with emails from fans of Bring Me The Horizon's lead singer Oli Sykes.
The author, who wrote that he's a fan of "Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons", revealed that he started receiving emails in 2008 following the release of the band's second album Suicide Season. He wrote, "My inbox started piling up with messages – predominantly from teenage girls – desperately trying to contact Oli Sykes. I had about 30 or 40 people telling me how much they loved ‘me’ and ‘my album’."
He wrote that despite being a student and being "unequipped" to help, he "couldn’t just leave them unread," and responded to each one stating he wasn't the right Oli Sykes. He also revealed that 40-50 emails kept arriving every week, and he spent "more time replying to emails for Oli Sykes than I was on my actual degree."
Although Sykes has never been able to contact the Bring Me The Horizon vocalist directly about his situation, he hopes the lead singer will "help promote" his new book Alfie’s First Fight "as payback for all the admin I did for him 15 years ago."
Bring Me The Horizon's Oli Sykes has since shared Oliver Sykes' piece on his Instagram Story.
