Caroline Polachek tops Album of the Year lists with Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
A user on Reddit has compiled a list of the top 50 Albums of the Year via multiple publications, and revealed that Caroline Polachek has the highest rated album of 2023.
MaltySines, the Reddit user who compiled the list of almost 600 albums wrote: "Albums were rated with a points system wherein albums ranked #1 on a list were given 50 points, albums ranked #2 were given 49 points etc. I only considered albums ranked in the top 50 for any publication. Publications are ordered from most to least agreement with consensus - i.e. the standard rank deviation of that publication's listed albums from the average of all 35 publications."
Despite only ranking at number 38 on BEST FIT's own list, Caroline Polachek's score, on average, was in the top four of most publications, making Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, the number one Album of the Year across the board. Her fourth studio album was released on Valentine's Day as the follow-up to her debut solo album, Pang, which was released in 2019.
Elsewhere on the list, boygenius, Sufjan Stevens, Lana Del Rey, and Wednesday take the top five spots. Whilst BEST FIT's number one album, Kara Jackson's Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love?, remarkably lands at 33 overall.
Honourable mentions go to Mitski's The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, which just misses the top five spot at number six, and one of the most anticipated albums of the year, GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo comes in at number eight.
