Caroline Polachek praises the intelligence of London, discusses meeting Lana Del Rey when she was "still Lizzy" on How Long Gone podcast
Caroline Polachek is the latest guest on Chris Black and Jason Stewart's How Long Gone podcast, and discusses her love for London and introducing different people, meeting Lana Del Rey when she was still Lizzy Grant and more.
After releasing her new album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You last week, Polachek has appeared on a new episode of Chris Black and Jason Stewart's How Long Gone podcast, and spoke about her love for London and the people in the city. Polachek explained, "I just like how everyday life feels in London. I really like just getting in the swing of things and just like dissolving into the city and feeling like a normal person ... I love how green it is, I love the combination between the old and really new things there. I feel like it positions both antiquity and futurism in sort of its own particular light ... I love the dry wit and curiosity and how generally more intellectual and well read people are in London than America."
Later in the episode, Polachek discussed her IF U PLZ playlist, which she updates every few months with hours of new music. After revealing that people ask her to add particular songs with every update, despite it being her own playlist, Polachek said, "It's a wild wake-up call to realise that like artist playlists now have actually filled a void that music blogs used to fill." She added that they've become "cultural touchstones" and "mini hubs".
Polachek also spoke about her love for introducing people, and revealed that she's "pretty nomadic" with friendship groups, bouncing between LA, New York and London. Polachek continued, "I really get off on introducing people. Like, during the pandemic, I was in London for a year-and-a-half, and I kind of felt like I had a ticket as an American to put different combinations - people from wildly different scenes in London in a room together without being sort of judged socially for it."
Towards the end of the episode, Polachek discussed meeting Lana Del Rey before she was even Del Rey, saying, "Weirdly I met her before Lana Del Rey even existed. I met Lana when she was still Lizzy. We've crossed flight paths very randomly and occasionally - we're not close - I just see her around sometimes and I really admire her."
