Britney Spears says she will "never return to the music industry"
Following last week's rumours that Britney Spears was starting work on her tenth studio album, she has now confirmed that she has no plans to return to the music industry.
On Friday evening, The Sun reported that Charli XCX was writing songs for Britney Spears' comeback album. Taking to her socials last night (3 January) Spears has confirmed that these rumours are false.
She started out her statement by saying that most news about her is "trash", explaining that she has been writing for fun, but has no intentions of making another album. "They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!! For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!".
She also cleared up rumours that her memoir, The Woman In Me, which chronicles her life as a rising star through to her conservatorship, was released illegally and without her consent.
Spears released Glory in 2016, and went on hiatus in order to focus on fighting the conservatorship that her father held over her. Since then, she has collaborated with Elton John on "Hold Me Closer", and also will.i.am on "Mind Your Business", but she hasn't released any solo music.
Britney Spears' debut memoir, The Woman In Me, is out now.
