boygenius announce forthcoming EP, the rest
Boygenius have announced The Rest – a four track companion EP to their debut album, the record.
Taking to their socials yesterday evening (25 September), boygenius announced their forthcoming EP which was co-produced alongside Tony Berg, Jake Finch, Ethan Gruska, Calvin Lauber, Collin Pastore and Marshall Vore.
The trio shared a cryptic track list, which revealed just one title – "Black Hole". As well as a digital release, the rest will be released on 10" vinyl – with a transparent yellow variant – and a CD.
Last week, boygenius shared a video for the lead track of their debut album. Speaking of "Cool About It" video creation, director Lauren Tsai says: ""Cool About It" is a beautifully melancholic and piercing song that puts words to feelings often unexplained. It is an absolute dream to collaborate with the genius that is boygenius. I made animated videos on Youtube when I was 11 and I cannot imagine something I'd lose my mind over more if I could go back in time and tell myself. I will always be grateful to the band for the many ways their work has affected my life."
Yesterday evening, boygenius also kicked off their autumn tour at MGM Music Hall at Fenway, Boston. Across the tour support comes from MUNA, Samia, and Palehound on selective dates with 100 gecs and Sloppy Jane joining for the special Halloween event.
During their set which spanned over 20 songs, they played through the likes of "Bite the Hand", "Emily I'm Sorry", and "$20", as well as giving "Black Hole" its live debut.
Much to everyone's surprise, Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus were joined onstage last night during their encore by Hozier, who helped them to close out the show by singing "Salt In The Wound". Towards the end of the set, Hozier, Bridgers, and Dacus bowed down to Baker who was in the background ripping a guitar solo.
