Blue Bendy sign to state51 and release new single, "Mr. Bubblegum"
South London six-piece Blue Bendy are back with their first single for new label state51 with "Mr. Bubblegum".
Notoriously hard to pigeon-hole; their singular art-rock sound combines with elements of hyperpop and midwest emo on new single "Mr. Bubblegum". The accompanying tongue-in-cheek music video is based on a popular dating app, as the viewer is navigated through parodied profiles of the band members, tentatively putting themselves out there online.
Singer Arthur Nolan explains the slightly odd inspiration behind the single: “Have you ever been set dressing for a Zara kids photo shoot? We have and it’s hell when you’re in the midst of a messy breakup.”
2022 saw Blue Bendy release their acclaimed debut EP, Motorbike, in February, following it with a sell-out hometown release show at London’s Peckham Audio. The band spent the year playing over 50 live dates, including a full UK tour with Canadian band Cola and slots at a slew of UK Festivals, including Green Man
They are now about to head on the road with Squid as main support all around the UK and Ireland, culminating in a huge show at London’s Troxy on 1 November. They follow that up with two shows supporting Personal Trainer and a festival appearance at Mutations in Brighton.
"Mr. Bubblegum" is out now via state51.
