black midi's Geordie Greep announces a London residency at Map Studio Café
Geordie Greep, frontman of black midi, has announced a special London Residency at London’s Map Studio Café.
Greep will perform radically different shows each night in the tiny 60 capacity venue. Show dates are 31 July and 2, 7, 9, 14, and 17 August, with a set featuring "old songs, new songs, great songs, long songs, non-songs, torch songs, love songs, nice songs, odd songs, fake songs, mad songs and sad songs".
"This will be a special cycle of shows where no one night is the same. It will encompass a wide range of styles and approaches, collaborations with different musicians and experimentations of different formats. Trio shows, solo shows, ensemble shows, duo shows, improvisation, instrumental “serious” music, ridiculous light-hearted music, songs you will recognise and many that you won’t," a statement reads.
Set-piece shows where you get to see the rare phenomenon of great musicians solving problems in real time, playing differently than they would usually have the need or occasion for. He will write new music specifically for each show in the series.
"Music is the best thing in the world. There is nothing that can make you feel as much in as short a space of time," Greep says. "One chord change can describe the universe, and one wrong chord change dismantle it. I hope you will enjoy my efforts to do more of the former than the latter, and hope to see you all there."
