Black Honey return with the standalone single, "Lemonade"
Black Honey have returned with a brand new single, "Lemonade". The track lands alongside an announcement of a UK run of shows for early 2024, marking their biggest headline shows to date.
Izzy Bee Phillips, Chris Ostler, Tommy Taylor, and Alex Woodward have had a stellar year with the release of their third album, A Fistful of Peaches, which gave them their highest chart position landing at number six in the UK album charts.
“I think we all got sold this ‘dream big’ concept. I’m having an existential realisation that we are just playing a game that’s designed to make rich people richer. I’m not sure what skills I learned in school other than capitalistic ones," explains Phillips. "They say when life gives you lemons make lemonade…well sometimes that’s just not f*cking doable. How about don’t make lemonade. How about the measure is to just exist and try and enjoy it, not take your bad situations and turn them into commercial gain.”
In classic Black Honey style, the single is accompanied by amusic video which was directed by Izzy alongside Craig Hemming, and follows a cast of antiheroes. She elaborates: “The video is a 12 character portrait series about different types of disappointment. We named each one and wrote a story for them. I wanted the ones we would consider successful societally to still be failures.”
After a 15 date tour post-album release and a plethora of summer festival appearances in recent months, Black Honey are rounding off 2023 with this new single before heading across Europe for a headline tour and support dates with Greta Van Fleet.
2024 kicks off in full force with their ‘Inclusive Extravaganza’ live dates starting with a show at Concorde 2 in the bands’ heartland Brighton on 31 January and followed by Bristol, Leeds and finally London's Kentish Town Forum on Valentines Day. Support comes from Picture Parlour and Kynsy, with further cameos set to include a sword swallower, drag queens, burlesque dancers and an Elvis impersonator.
"Lemonade" is out now. Tickets for Black Honey's forthcoming tour are on general sale on 27 October at 9am.
