Björk recalls filming the video for "Joga" on the site of last week's volcanic eruption in Iceland
On 18 December, Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula had a volcanic outburst for the fourth time in less than three years, leading to 4000 residents being evacuated.
Taking to her socials, Björk recalled filming the video for her single, "Jóga" which is taken from the 1997 album Homogenic.
"the eruption that started on 18th of december was the most powerful of the now annual reykjanes peninsula volcanic activities . it just ended last night . out of the 4 eruptions ( geologists say it could happen every year now for a century ) it was the shortest and had most lava per minute," she explained.
Björk goes on to explain that the eruption happened next to the mountain that she filmed the "Jóga" video on.
"The song was written for my ( still today ) best friend and she reminded me last month of that i had asked her at the time “who do you want to represent you in the video , iceland or kristbjörg kjeld ?” . she answered iceland and i remember explaining to michel that for me , mother earth , jóga , moss and lava is the same thing . and that i wanted to open my chest and reveal my lava-heart.”
Björk recently announced that she will be narrating Merlin Sheldrake's forthcoming nature documentary about funghi.
