Ashnikko celebrates releasing their debut album: "it is one of the greatest joys of my life"
Today, sees Ashnikko celebrate the release of their debut album, WEEDKILLER.
WEEDKILLER is the follow up to Ashnikko's 2021 mixtape DEMIDEVIL. In the run up to the release they shares the singles, "Cheerleader", "Possession of a Weapon", "Worms", and "You Make Me Sick!".
In celebration of the release, they took to their socials to share a series of unreleased artworks and a statement of thanks to those who have supported her along the way.
"WEEDKILLER, the world i’ve spent the past two and a half years crafting with my friends has finally hatched. i felt immense release writing this record. it deepened my sense of selfhood. it sent roots out of my feet and into the earth. i reclaimed my body from weedkillers who latched onto my skin like ticks. i gave life to the creepy crawlies scuttling around my brain and let myself be ugly and grotesque and happy and sexy," they wrote.
"it is one of the greatest joys of my life that my music has a safe place to land with you all. i hope you are able to writhe around and scream in the forest and howl at the moon and scurry around like a rat to this album," they continued, adding that she's "gonna do a separate post thanking everyone who made WEEDKILLER what it is, so many big brain big hearted angels were involved."
Earlier this week, Ashnikko spoke to NME to discuss working with Ethel Cain on the final song of the album, "Dying Star".
“I wrote the first verse of the song in a session, and I didn’t know what to do with it and was sitting on it for a while," they said. “Then I played it to Ethel, and "Dying Star" came out. It was quite magical making that with her, she’s such an incredibly talented musician and songwriter.”
