Arlo Parks shares a cover of Jai Paul's "Jasmine" and announces forthcoming deluxe album
Following the release of her debut book, THE MAGIC BORDER, Arlo Parks has shared the new track, "Jasmine", alongside announcing a deluxe version of her critically acclaimed second album, My Soft Machine.
My Soft Machine (Deluxe) will feature six new recordings, including her evocative cover of "Jasmine" by Jai Paul. Produced by labelmate Dave Okumu, the track also received Jai Paul’s personal stamp of approval. It is accompanied by a Joel Barney-directed and Ali Raymond (Beatnik Creative)-produced visualiser, shot in New York.
Speaking about what the track means to her, Parks explains: ""Jasmine'"has always moved me deeply – to me it's this shadowy, timeless and incredibly profound love song. I really wanted to draw out the yearning of the lyrics and pay homage to an artist who has had a seismic impact on me and on culture. Receiving Jai Paul's blessing to create this cover with Dave Okumu was one of the highlights of my creative journey so far".
Also appearing on the deluxe version of the album is a new version of "I’m Sorry" featuring Congolese-Belgian singer/rapper Lous and The Yakuza, "Blades" with bars from US hip-hop upstart redveil, a cover of Tirzah’s "Holding On" and acoustic versions of "Devotion" and "Pegasus".
My Soft Machine, released earlier this year, was recorded across London and Los Angeles, boasts an impressive array of producers, including Paul Epworth, Ariel Rechtshaid, Romil Hemnani (of Brockhampton), Buddy Ross (Frank Ocean), Carter Lang (SZA), and self-production by Arlo Parks, herself.
Her debut book, THE MAGIC BORDER: Poetry And Fragments From My Soft Machine, consists of the lyrics from My Soft Machine, as well as new exclusive images by Daniyel Lowden and 20 new poems.
My Soft Machine (Deluxe) is set for release on 8 December via Transgressive Records, and is available to pre-order now.
