Ariana Grande changed cover art for Yours Truly due to "bullying" from fans

Ariana Grande is currently in the midst of week-long celebrations for the tenth anniversary of her debut album, Yours Truly.

Along with the expanded album, which was released on Friday, Grande is celebrating a decade of Yours Truly with Q&A sessions, a merchandise capsule, and the release of live performances of songs such as, “Baby I,” “Tattooed Heart,” “Right There,” and “The Way", which featured her late boyfriend Mac Miller.

In one of the Q&A sessions, Grande reflected on the making of the album, and shared with fans that she wished that "Honeymoon Avenue” and “You’ll Never Know” would've been singles: “I feel like "You’ll Never Know" would have been such a fun single," she revealed, later adding that she was debating between "Honeymoon Avenue" and "Daydreamin" to be the title of her debut album before naming it Yours Truly.

Elsewhere in the session, she revealed that negative comments and "bullying" from fans had prompted her to completely change the artwork for this re-release. “Your bullying has been consistent for the past ten years. You hated it. You were like, ‘This is fucking ugly, mom. Change it.’ So I did. Sometimes, it leaves me with wounds that make me question everything I’ve done since.”

Online, fans have been defending their decision, with one X user saying: "Well the original was giving Nickelodeon so I'm glad she changed it", and another adding, "the first one looks like a wattpad cover art for a story of a normal small town girl with big dreams who gets a dream job as Harry Styles’ stylist… the fans were right".

Despite Grande perceiving the comments as negative, one fan shifted the perspective to suggest that it is more of a positive thing, to receive feedback in this way: "This was the right choice. The current cover is TIMELESS. I know it’s hard for artists to deal with this but listening to fans can help create some career changing decisions for the better."

The deluxe edition of Yours Truly is out now.
