Annie Lennox calls on ‘Artists for Ceasefire’ during Sinéad O’Connor tribute
Yesterday evening, at the Grammy Awards, Annie Lennox performed a rendition of the late artist's song, "Nothing Compares 2 U", and called for a ceasefire in Palestine and Israel.
During the in memoriam tribute to the late Sinéad O’Connor, who died of natural causes last July, Lennox appeared on stage and performed “Nothing Compares 2 U". As the song came to a close, Lennon raised her fist into the air and shouted, “Artists for ceasefire! Peace in the world!”
As Billboard reports, "Lennox was one of the dozens of artists who signed an open letter to President Joe Biden in late October 2023, calling on him “to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay – an end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages.” The president has yet to openly advocate for a ceasefire."
I think our very own Annie Lennox was the only artist at the Grammys to call for a ceasefire after her performance of “Nothing Compares to You”

Annie Lennox has openly shared her support for a ceasefire, even posting in exasperation yesterday: “Is there ANY point in posting every day to keep calling for peace and ceasefire, while it’s perfectly obvious that the military objective is to bring about the total decimation of Gaza and her people? I find it impossible to witness these appalling atrocities and just be indifferent or silent.”
"My moral compass compels me to do the only thing I can, which is to stand witness by writing," she continued. The situation is beyond anything I’ve ever known, or would ever wish to know.. I am devastated and heartbroken by everything that’s taking place."
