Adrianne Lenker releases collection of songs with all proceeds donated to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund
Big Thief vocalist and guitarist Adrianne Lenker has shared a Bandcamp release of songs with all proceeds going to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
Taking to her socials, yesterday evening, Lenker shared a statement calling for a ceasefire: "Everything I think to say feels like it is less than a micro-fraction of the power that is needed to convey the message. I can’t express how sad and angry I am about this ongoing violence towards Palestinians. The killing must stop. The need for a ceasefire is beyond urgent. Permanent Ceasefire Now!"
She then announced the release of six songs which were recorded in the moments they were written. I Won’t Let Go of Your Hand, is available on Bandcamp, with all of the proceeds being donated to Palestine Children's Relief Fund.
In 2022, Big Thief scheduled two concerts in Israel – bassist Max Oleartchik’s hometown is Tel Aviv – but later canceled the shows and apologized for booking them in the first place, after facing backlash, saying “Our intent...stemmed from a simple belief that music can heal.”
Comments on the Instagram post of these songs, and Lenker calling for a ceasefire, are mixed. Some people have said it's "too little, too late", whilst others have recognised the difficult position that she is in due to her bandmate, with one user writing: "There is a high emotional load to these particular set of circumstances for all of them, I would imagine."
