Seasonal Affective Disorder sufferers, look away now, because Leeds via Queensland outfit The Coopers have arrived packing a brace of sparkling sunshine ‘n’ showers gems, ‘Summer’s Child’ and ‘Autumn’.
The follow-up to this year’s Paint It Blue And Throw It In The Sea EP, the tracks are pencilled in for a 20 August release via New York’s Cosine Records. A-side ‘Summer’s Child’ gets the ball rolling with a guitar lead almost identical to that stunning line from Foals’ ‘Spanish Sahara’, before soothing male vocals and pounding toms part the clouds, heralding the arrival of one of this year’s last sun-soaked choruses. Co-vocalist Chelsea takes the lead on the more subdued B-side, ‘Autumn’, laying a sugary caw over earwormy synth blips and sparse beats.
Not the most subtle of outfits, but that assertion won’t bother The Coopers, their only concern is putting a smile on your face.
