Mom Tudie will tell you his July single ‘Human Heart’ was influenced by Thom Yorke’s The Eraser, and the antsy, anxious production is certainly there, but horns and female harmonies, the latter provided by Bridget Spencer, give a particularly Dirty Projectors feel to the proceedings coming from the eighteen-year old-artist.
Angling himself for the increasingly fruitful genre of ambient RnB and naturally more stripped down than the aforementioned Projectors, the self-proclaimed wannabe producer previously released the tracks ‘Dove’ and ‘Make Up Your Mind’ before stirring up blog buzz with ‘Human Heart’. Like his cohorts in this distinctly youthful milieu, the native Londoner – first name Tom, surname almost definitely Mudie – crafts tracks with references and homages to hip-hop and garage rock, though his most effective samples come with brass and percussive arrangements.
The future looks bright for Tudie and his jittery, glitchy slice of the electronic slowburn pie; though, of course and rather contrarily, his music is destined for one’s considerably dark spaces.
