Zhao evokes a brilliant sense of optimism with sunny sonic number “Feeling Today”
Zhao's “Feeling Today” is a ray of sunshine, cascading with electronic rhythms and funk-filled basslines.
Zhao has created a lush sonic space for the listener to dive into, with glossy synths lapping at the track's surface. The single narrates Zhao’s life as a musician in Los Angeles, chronicling the hardships and limitations of an artist attempting to master their craft. Living in the sunshine state has clearly encouraged creativity to flow, and the Californian sun spills from every sonic groove.
As an Asian-American artist, Zhao challenged himself to shatter the cultural boundaries that oppressed his trade - "I view being an artist as a way of amplifying my own approach to the Asian-American experience, in hopes that it may work for others struggling with the same problems”, he explains. “I’ve always viewed my song writing process like a form of self-psychoanalysis…like finding out what I’ve really been thinking about”.
His voice breezes over the electronic soundscape as he asks the listener: “How you feeling today?” It’s rhetorical, and yet there really is only one answer to the question he proposes.
