Youth Lagoon – Cannons // Song Of The Day #231
If the vocals on ‘Cannons’ sound like they were recorded in a four-car garage, that’s because they were. I’m not sure I’ve ever even seen a four-car garage, but I can imagine what effect it would have it terms of reverb and lyric intelligibility. It’s a characteristic which many an upstart tries to utilise, but few do it quite as well as Youth Lagoon.
Youth Lagoon is the chosen artistic appellation of Trevor Powers, a 22-year-old from Boise, Idaho. His music sits somewhere between that of Therapies Son and Perfume Genius, carefully balancing the emotions of despair and delight.
Luckily for us, we won’t have to wait too long to hear more from Youth Lagoon, as the debut album The Year of Hibernation is slated for a summer release on equally exciting new label Juno Beach Records. For now, though, you can grab ‘Cannons’ below.
