The sun is gradually setting on our SXSW coverage – something for which I am actually pretty grateful, as the jealousy was becoming nigh on unbearable.
Today we are leaving Texas but hopping just a couple of States eastward, to Mississippi (em-eye-double-ess-eye-etc), where we find Young Buffalo.
Young Buffalo are a true sunshine band, even their most melancholic moments being imbued with the heat of the Southern States. Who better for them to cover, then, than that most bittersweet of bands, Broken Social Scene. Their version of ‘Anthems For A 17 Year-Old Girl’ retains all of the slow-build majesty of the original, and adds a charming, scrappy, semi-acoustic feel.
Young Buffalo recently made their debut jaunt across the UK. If you missed out, they will be returning soon courtesy of Fat Possum – a label which suddenly has an apparently insatiable appetite for new signings.
