Why pick one genre when you could have them all? That seems to be the philosophy that informs World’s End Girlfriend.
Listening to Seven Idiots, the forthcoming album from the Tokyo-based solo artist, feels a little like how one imagines a psychotic episode might pan out. ‘Schizophrenic’ doesn’t do this justice; it is more like having a dozen different musicians, all playing different songs, from different parts of the world, and from different decades, all at once.
‘Les Enfants Du Paradis’ sums this record up nicely. It manages to cram arms-aloft guitar lines, 65dos-style distorted drums, circus clown soundtracks, majestic strings, and chiptune synths all into a measly seven minutes.
Seven Idiots is out 22 April on the ever-fascinating Erased Tapes. In the meantime, ‘Les Enfants Du Paradis’ is today’s Song Of The Day.
