Welfare’s new single “Sadie” & EP Silent Other were recorded 2500ft up in the Italian Alps
Pat Whelan, previously of Padraig Whelan, is now crafting slow-burning songs rooted in personal experience under his Welfare moniker.
Originally from Doncaster and now living off the grid in Wales, Pat Whelan is a tried and tested musician who draws on a range of styles in his ongoing quest to master the art of simple songwriting.
His new EP Silent Other is an amalgamation of For Everyman era Jackson Browne and elements of Chris Bell’s I Am The Cosmos, tied together with sustained piano and that melodica from “The Rain Song”.
The EP was recorded in the Italian Alps at the home of writer Julia Blackburn and sculptor Herman Makkink, whose works feature heavily in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange.
