Listen: Waterstrider - "White Light"
Singer Nate Salman first caught our attention in October last year when he featured on Les Sins' disco-pop belter, "Why". A commanding though delicate vocal, this time Salman lends his voice to his new band, Waterstrider.
Driven by a playful rhythm section and guitars that squirm with math-rock sentiments, "White Light" is the kind of fidgety, otherworldly guitar music that Colourmusic like to pen. Salman, however, has a much frillier falsetto that the latter's Ryan Hendrix - a voice that is pure ecstasy to listen to. Meandering naturally through funky twists and dark turns, it sweetens the track's dreamy verses and gnaws at its elevated choruses. Accomplished stuff from an exciting new band.
"White Light" is released alongside "Calliope" as a double A-side on 29 January. It features on the band's debut, Nowhere Now, out later this year.
