Watch: Marika Hackman – Bath Is Black [Best Fit Premiere]
Marika Hackman’s rise through the ranks of ‘buzz band’ to full-on folk prodigy has seen her well appreciated by the music press. ‘Bath Is Black’ is Marika’s debut from mini-album, That Iron Taste, to be released soon.
It’s up beat, catchy, and bubbles with the ambition of a singer who’s desperate not just to be called another hype artist.
Swathes of images of Marika bathing in black liquid, looking sad, sorrowed and downbeat as she watches on as a white trash couple exchange in a number of NSFW activities – the darkness contrasting the summery tone of the single in a bleak but totally affecting way. Yet another step in the right direction that’s sure to bring the London folk favourite further into the spotlight.
