Two People confront the transience of love on the dreamy "Fading" [Premiere]
Sometimes, love truly just ain’t enough…
Melbourne, Australia soulful dream-pop quintet Snakadaktal sadly became a one-and-done proposition calling it quits in 2014 after a promising 2013 debut album. However, a pair of the band’s alumni, Phoebe Lou and Joey Clough, have re-emerged as the modestly named Two People.
The premiere of the duo’s material, “Fading”, proves that Lou and Clough have hung onto their roots while leaning more heavily on electronics. They’ve stripped the sound of its tangible percussion, creating a decidedly airier ambience, synths undulating atop an austere guitar and bass loop.
Echoing the song’s title and its atmosphere, Lou yearns simply for something concrete, asserting she “want[s] a house, not a home.” Wafting in and out of presence against Clough’s slowly simmering arrangement, Lou faces head on that tipping point in a relationship where one needs more to grasp onto than just feelings.
“Fading” will feature on the duo’s upcoming debut EP, due out later this year courtesy of Liberation Music.
