Indulge in Tora's gorgeous patchwork electronica, "High Enough" [Premiere]
Australia's musical output has been top notch of late. Whether it's big guns psychedelia à la Tame Impala or the electronic purr of I'lls and George Maple, the country can certainly celebrate its recent exports. Tora are the latest act to make small though not insignificant waves, quietly amassing millions of Soundcloud plays and touring Europe (dates below).
New track "High Enough" is a good introduction to their heavily textured, soulful electronica. Set upon a restless rhythm section and encyclopedic electronic effects, "High Enough" is musically complex though lyrically humble. The opening falsetto hook of "oh but you never" sinks straight into the head over a busy, interlocking framework.
“The song is about missing somebody”, explains bandmember Jo Loewenthal, “and feeling like the distance between you both is getting bigger.”
It's scuttering bedroom electronica that's been left to roam free outside - a kind of unconstrained constrained. While every component sounds like its been obsessed over in some stuffy attic, its accessible vocal lines and shimmering euphoric moments call to something much bigger. We're excited for where Tora might end up.
