Thyla dig up the sounds of 1988 on “Tell Each Other Lies”
Trainee shoegazers and part of the Brighton guitar locale, Thyla are back in all their reverberated glory.
From The Ninth Wave in Glasgow to Pale Waves in Manchester, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” seems to be the party line amongst female-fronted, ‘80s indebted guitar bands.
This combination of unadulterated shoegaze and powerful women taking the lead is a beautiful thing indeed and is no more evident than in emerging Brighton band Thyla. With a string of strong singles under their belt, Thyla are starting to command audiences up and down the country with their own brand of vintage indie pop.
“Tell Each Other Lies” is Debbie Harry in full sway with David Byrne on production duties. There’s nothing particularly new here but sometimes, considering the current climate, burying your head in the sand can be the best way go.
