The Drink show off their playful side and ever-developing sound on "The Coming Rain"
With an ability to eschew commitment to any particular sound (but continually managing to sound very much like themselves), London trio The Drink have found their previous releases met with a critical acclaim that has lauded them as one of the most original current bands to keep an ear to the ground to.
On "The Coming Rain", hints of dream-pop clashing perfectly with mellow, folk tinged harmonies prove that The Drink have become no less endearingly odd in the 11 months that have passed since the release of their debut, Company.
Where 2014's eclectic debut contained a somewhat dark, intriguing underbelly beneath their bold explorations and experimentation with sound, "The Coming Rain" showcases The Drink's playful side, as Dearbhla Minogue's harmonic vocals flutter effortlessly through jangly and punchy guitars that are occasionally reminiscent of The Stone Roses' classic "Waterfall".
Rather than building upon the roaming instrumentation that was initially explored throughout their debut, "The Coming Rain" revels in a shimmering, upbeat simplicity that still very much packs a punch.
Despite their confident exploration through genre and sound, The Drink consider themselves as self-confessed purveyors of "odd dark folk pop" - "The Coming Rain" takes this beguiling weirdness that is a driving point, separating The Drink from other up and coming artists, and runs with it in the most endearing and interesting way.
