The Beach airs hypnotic pop cover of Eaves' "As Old As The Grave" [Premiere]
The Beach - aka Clapham-based George Morgan - is airing his sublime pop rendition of Eaves' "As Old As The Grave" as our Song Of The Day.
It was recorded in a "a cupboard-sized studio in a high rise block" with ex-next-door-neighbour Max Hosinger, his producer. Despite the intimate setting, Morgan's interpretation of "As Old As The Grave" swells into a gigantic pop-monolith.
Electro splatters and twinkling acoustics transform the folk-tinged original into a trippy, rhythmic feast. Subtle funk threads permeate Morgan's tender vocal line, and with the strident beat pumping away in the undergrowth, it's clear that this is an ode for restless bodies.
The Beach will perform three shows at The Social in London over the course of next month. He's set to play 7, 15, and 28 September.
If you want more noises from Morgan, check out "Thieves" - which sounds a bit like Ben Howard produced by alt-J - and the floaty "From Above".
