Irish duo Tebi Rex release the playful, self-deprecating "White Boy of The Month"
Tebi Rex reinforce their position as a serious contender for Ireland's hip-hop scene crown with their new track "White Boy of The Month".
When you mention Ireland, hip-hop may not be the first thing on the tip of your tongue, but the country has given us some of the most innovative and talented rap groups of the past few years. With acts like Tebi Rex entering the scene, it's safe to say nothing is slowing this movement down.
Made up of Matt O'Baoill and Max Zanga, the pair scored a winner last September with the release of their debut album The Young Will Eat The Old. They were about to embark on a US tour before the Covid-19 epidemic, but didn't let the virus stall their momentum, redirecting their energy into a summer 2020 mixtape and a second LP, due out next year.
Their latest single “White Boy of The Month” is a self-deprecating ode to “being average”, which manages to be both playful and insightful while maintaining a fresh edge. Their signature colourful synth-driven production plays beautifully with the mellow rhymes and hooks. Tebi Rex seem like fun, genuinely guys who care deeply about their fan base: a point driven home at the end of the animated visuals when the two give heartfelt shout outs and blow kisses.
