TĀLĀ introduces globe-trotting musical project on the dizzying "Praise", co-written with Sylas
TĀLĀ's been awfully quiet since her debut gig in January and her first ever festival performance at this year's Field Day. Now, the South London soloist is back with an exciting new project centred around collaborations with artists across the globe. It might not be a part of the debut album we're desperate to hear but new tracks like "Praise" prove she's had no idle hands, nor the need to dish out the full goods just yet.
Chatting to Best Fit in June, TĀLĀ spoke of her then-secret project as "ballsy," and devoid of making "any pastel coloured music". Not that we ever think the electronic artist's magpie-like sampling - often characterised by a smorgasbord of Middle Eastern sounds - was ever a shade of beige.
On "Praise" we hear the bombastic beats that energised much of her previous EPs, The Duchess and Alchemy, but with a poppier sheen courtesy of gorgeous vocal pairings between the rising soloist and the slick London duo.
"Praise" is big, busy and just as ballsy as TĀLĀ promised, though it doesn't eschew its quieter moments. A gently pulsing chorus breakdown brings the track's four minutes of dizzying, tuneful cacophony to a hush; a truly impressive and rewarding exercise in dynamics.
It's a thrilling first taste of TĀLĀ's mysterious new project. We can't wait for our second bite.
