How do Stones Throw do it? Virtually everything they have released in the last year has verged on perfection – and that trend looks set to continue over the next few months.
Lost ’80s soul almost-legend Steve Arrington is set to release a new album on Stones Throw later this year – produced by 21st century soul nearly-legend Dam Funk. ‘Goin’ Hard’ is the first track from that record, and….oh. My. Lord. Listen to the kick drum. From the very first bar this is beautifully produced, sunshine-drenched brilliance.
“Down in the trenches / I be handlin’ my business,” Arrington sings in his inimitable, tongue-in-cheek way. If this is the soundtrack, I would very much like to join him.
