I was never particularly into scifi. Words like ‘Alderaan’ and ‘warp speed’ don’t fill me with a frisson of excitement for the new; they just make me laugh a bit.
Space Dimension Controller, on the other hand, seems to be quite the space-fantasy enthusiast. His latest release is called The Pathway To Tiraquon6 – and it’s a prequel to his debut full-length, Welcome to Mikrosektor-50. It’s quite the little constellation of geekery.
‘Usurper’ is taken from Pathway…and it’s the perfect track to welcome the beautiful, crisp, bright winter we have just entered. It’s full of incandescent synths, slinky bass, and a massive, Carl Craig-esque rhythm section that’s there one minute, gone the next. The eight-minute track flits between pounding tech-house and reverberant, synth-led panoramas, before gradually collapsing in on itself – like, you guessed it, a star quietly imploding.
The Pathway To Tiraquon6 is out now on R&S.
