Something extra special in store today. No strangers to Song Of The Day, in the short space of time that bedroom acts Houses and Teen Daze have been making music, their output has quickly become a solid mainstay on the TLOBF office speakers. Imagine our excitement then, when we stumbled over this little gem over on the Teen Daze tumblr. Posted as a stream yesterday evening, the words ‘Destiny’ flooded across my Twitter account via multiple re-tweets around the same time as Pitchfork announced their new sister site Altered Zones – a new publication dedicated to “leftfield pop, experimental, and home-recorded sounds”. Talk about a chill-wave overload. Not that I’m complaining.
The lines are hazy as to who had what role in the recording of ‘Destiny’ or even if there is future material planned. For now, all we know is that it’s the product of a collaboration between Houses and Teen Daze. A project so new that it doesn’t even have a name. Perhaps it doesn’t even need a name. When the music is as lush and spell-binding as this, names aren’t important. ‘Destiny’ forces you to stop, sit back and breath in the dense sea air that spills out from its many layers. It’s the sound of forgotten summers, fragmented memories and future dreams. We’re just counting ourselves lucky we managed to post it up first before the multi-faceted blog behemoth Altered Zones comes along on 7 July and steals our crops.
