SOTD #89 // Aloha Tigers: ‘Oh, The Glory Of It All’
Sometimes a song comes along that you just connect with instantly. A song that has a certain haunting quality that causes you to become completely immersed and wrapped up in it. ‘Oh, The Glory Of It All’ by Bloomington, Illinois based duo Aloha Tigers is one such song.
Coinciding with the plethora of retro-sounding bands emerging and with hat tips in equal measures to Panda Bear, Fleet Foxes and The Beach Boys the first thing that hits you when you hear the song is its alluring production. Echoing vocals, drums and guitar add to the visceral quality of this little beauty. Howling backing vocals build the song up to its understated climax of the title line. Everything about the song sounds relatively tranquil, calm and happy. Until you listen to the lyrics. With lines such as “make your way to the gallows” and “hold him down and burn his eyelids with a cigarette, lets see what we can get him to admit to” the underlying darkness casts a brooding shadow on the song and it is all the better for it. Sink your claws into Aloha Tigers. This will certainly whet your appetite.
