Following up on last year’s The Knot, Baltimore’s Wye Oak return with a five track EP of country tinged magic. By stepping for the first time out of the security of their two-piece dynamic and allowing outside producers into the fold, they have bolstered their sound yet again.
Our Song Of The Day is the spectacular opening track ‘My Neighbor’ – a richly textured blend of chiming guitars, intricate percussion and gentle vocals. Its melancholy beginnings are soon overtaken by a groundswell of optimism that pirouettes confidently to-and-fro; distilling their art into a three-and-a half-minute expedition into elation.
Their continued experimentation and desire to push the envelope demonstrates that the acorn can sometimes fall pretty far from the tree.
