SOTD #135 // Idiot Glee: 'Ain't No Sunshine'
A collective thud of jaws hitting the floor occurred at around 11.34pm last Wednesday, just off Shoreditch High Street in East London. The occasion? Idiot Glee was in the house – more specifically in The Old Blue Last – and had just played his live trump card – this fearsome reworking of ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’.
It’s Bill Withers made over by Beach House, slowed down to the pace of a stoned Thursday evening spent watching the sky for shooting stars. James Friley – the young man behind Idiot Glee – tears the song a new a-hole, with a confident vocal that touches base just a little bit with each of the Beach Boys.
A single is about to drop via Moshi Moshi: ‘Don’t’ Drink the Water’ is out on 4 October, backed with ‘All Packed Up’.
