Given the frequency that bands are asked about the origins of their name, you’d be forgiven for thinking that what musicians call their collective is as important as the racket they make. If there was any kind of lingering belief that one should read as much into the moniker as the music, then Sleeping Bags manage to kill that off.
Thankfully, their songs don’t take the same mundane route, the band melding together a racket that is deceptive in it’s depth. Of the tracks available so far, ‘Pehr’ is the best indication of their textured magnificence, layering guitar upon guitar to create something otherworldly and urgent. It’s a psychedelic attack of noise, seven minutes and thirty seven seconds of bewilderment that stops just shy of Wooden Shjips style introversion. Whilst their other tracks include vocals, the ambition of emotion behind this epic almost makes words redundant – probably a good thing, given they’re a band named after camping goods.
