He may be young, operate under various levels of mystery and record music in his bedroom but there is no way that London based Becoming Real could be linked to the current tidal wave of blog-pop stars emerging left, right and centre. You only have to listen to five seconds of ‘Fast Motion’ to realise that Becoming Real operates on a completely different playing field to his contemporaries.
With a genre he likes to call “Ghost-Step” – ‘Fast Motion’ is a three minute workout of futuristic scattered beats; where sub bass collides with synthetic cymbal crashes and semi-audible vocal murmuring. Becoming Real’s deft touch as a producer making the fully computerised, artificial nature of the song feel human. Although cold in the centre, the music still has a heart that is very much alive and beating…. Just to a slightly different drum.
After a sold out debut white label release on Tough Love Records last year, ‘Fast Motion’ b/w ‘Jen’s Clock’ will be released via RAMP Recordings on 21st June.
