SOTD #40 // Wildbirds & Peacedrums: 'Fight For Me'
When you’ve released two equally stunning albums of raw stripped-back experimental folk music, with the predominant instruments being just percussion and vocals, how exactly do you move forward creatively and avoid turning into a the dreaded one trick pony?
On new song, “Fight For Me”, Wildbirds & Peacedrums have added a further dimension to their sonic pallet with the addition of the 12-piece Schola Cantorum Reykjavík Chamber Choir. The results are nothing less than staggering. The choir play an integral role in the song; harnessing what was already incredibly creative about the duo’s intuitive mix of vocals/drums and complementing perfectly without sounding bombastic or out of place.
Wildbirds & Peacedrums release a new (vinyl only) EP entitled Retina on May 10th via Leaf Label. A follow-up EP called Iris – also vinyl only – will be released early June. For those wanting digital or CD versions of the EP’s, you’ll have to wait a little longer. Both will be bundled together in a 2CD set called Rivers and released on CD and digital in August. Got all that?
The duo will be accompanied by the choir on a string of shows throughout May. If you’ve ever seen Wildbirds & Peacedrums live, you’ll know that their true strength lies in their astonishing live performance. With the added bonus of a choir, these are sure to be unmissable concerts. Do not miss! Check their MySpace for details.
