Apologies for the silence yesterday. I’d spent the weekend at my family home in the north of England, devouring quality home comforts that you just can’t get down south. I’m talking Staffordshire Oatcakes and decent Chipshop curry sauce. Oh yeah, I know how to party.
Song Of The Day returns in style today though with the glacial pop meanderings of Finnish duo Villah Nah. With their debut single “Running On” due for release via the unstoppable Moshi Moshi Singles Club on May 10th, it’s only a matter of time before Juho Paalosmaa and Tomi Hyyppä become household names… After all, the Moshi Singles Club is responsible for launching the careers of Lykke Li, Friendly Fires and most recently Summer Camp. Villah Nah are in some pretty great company.
Ten seconds into b-side “Ways To Be” and it’s not hard to understand what attracted Moshi Moshi to Villa Nah in the first place. Embracing the influence of eighties synth-pop titans The Human League whilst adding an unmistakeable Nordic cleanliness and sheen; “Ways To Be” is the sound of stepping out into a cold Spring morning – its release couldn’t come at a more suitable time.
