SOTD #36 // Brothers Of End: 'Beats For You (Rasmus Hägg Remix)'
Having released their debut album The End in October last year, Brothers Of End return with a remix of album highlight “Beats For You” by Rasmus Hägg - one half of Gothenburg production duo Studio (coincidentally, Hägg’s partner D. Lissvik featured in Monday’s SOTD).
For those unfamiliar with Brothers Of End, it might be of interest to learn that two thirds of the band also play in The Cardigans, whilst vocalist Mattias Areskog has played alongside Frida Hyvönen and Peter Morén (of Peter Bjorn and John). Some good pedigree then…
Using the term “remix” for Hägg’s interpretation of the song is an absolute injustice. Slowing the speed of the original track right down and adding oodles of panning atmospherics, layers and his trademark super-compressed rhythm section (showcased magnificently on El Perro Del Mar’s latest LP Love Is Not Pop), Hägg immerses the listener into a star lit journey of the unknown. As smooth as silk but without ever verging into MOR territory, the results are simply magical.
