SOTD #32 (Alessi’s Ark Takeover) // Vic Chestnutt: 'Flirted With You All My Life'
The first time I heard this I was at a friend, Marcus’ house and it really stopped me in my tracks. Vic’s voice just catches you off guard and at least for me, always sends shivers up my spine. The lyrics of this song are very powerful and dark, but they’re juxtaposed and surrounded by such hopeful, pretty melodies. Sadly, Vic died due to a drug overdose on Christmas day last year and this song, so clearly deals with his relationship with death, making the song if possible, even more moving and haunting. He was a very prolific artist and you can find all 17 of his albums in all good record shops. I feel very lucky to have found his music, thank you to Marcus for sharing it with me!
