Song Of The Day #188 // Beardyman: 'Twist Your Ankal'
Rahzel, Michael Winslow (of Police Academy fame) and Doug E. Fresh are names from across the pond that are almost inextricably linked with the art of beatboxing to critical acclaim. In the last decade or so, Blighty has followed suit with a wide talent pool including the likes of Shlomo, MC Zani and Faith SFX.
However, Beardyman (aka Darren Foreman) is the exception to the rule, showcased in his forthcoming evolution from beatboxer to recording artist on imminent debut LP I Done A Album. The album portrays Foreman’s versatility as an ad lib showman merging a plethora of genres from drum & bass to rap and further beyond still. Lead single ‘Where Does Your Mind Go’ is released on February 28 and reveals another persona to Beardy with delicate, airy vocals coated over a synthbending bass foundation.
‘Twist Your Ankal’ is another exclusive from the album which has Beardyman initially assuming a superlative Attenborough guise, alas the track evolves into a tambourine shaking Sub-Saharan affair with a thumping drum loop pattern (all the vocals are provided by Beardy as well) and highlife inspired riffs. His choral refrain of “Dance around now twist your ankal”- a giddy invitation to release your inner 2-step pon de floor.
I Done A Album by Beardyman is released via Sunday Best on the 14th of March.
