Son Lux is one of the most interesting artists releasing on Anticon – and that is a title that he holds against some pretty stiff competition.
New Yorker Ryan Lott’s first album, At War With Walls And Mazes, was a strange record, simultaneously cacophonous and beautiful. It sounded like the work of a modern classical composer trying to make a pop record, and ending up not in the middle, but in somewhere completely different altogether. It took Sufjan-esque vocals, Nils Frahm piano, and glitch-hop percussion, and let them all float around together for 45 minutes.
Today, Son Lux’s second record is released in the States. It was recorded over the course of a month; you can read the story of the process on NPR. Brits will have to wait until May to hear it, but ‘Rising’ is a suitably fragile appetite whetter.
