Snasen shirks genre on innovative new track, "Ink Blot", ahead of debut LP release [Premiere]
Ahead of the release of his debut full length album Forsvinningen, producer and jack/master of all trades Snasen perfectly encompasses the weird, wonderful and original on the enticing, genre-avoiding "Ink Blot".
Meticulously crafted, and with a consistently ominous yet uplifting feel throughout, "Ink Blot" is a lush, heady mix of smooth, intermittent synths, echoing female vocals and an underlying interjection of male vocals from Aleksander Johansen. Despite this cocktail of elements, the track flows with a delicate, uncomplicated ease. It's clear to see how the upcoming, year-in-the-making Forsvinningen was a slight labour of love in comparison to the more speedily put together Grok EP last year.
Snasen, despite drawing mixing techniques and influence from styles ranging from hip hop to techno, isn't a slave to any specific genre. This genuine care and sincerity towards his craft is what makes his music so unique. "Ink Blot" reverberates with a creepy-cool vibe that isn't instantly easy to pin down but still remains atmospheric, focused and, somewhat surprisingly, honest. It's all the more compelling for it.
