Post punks Slow Riot unveil brooding new single “Trophy Wife”
Irish post punk trio Slow Riot unleash their latest single, “Trophy Wife”, a slice of alternative pop that's destined to fill underground clubs across the country.
Recorded with Kevin Vanbergen (The Pixies, The Maccabees, Biffy Clyro) at Brighton’s Park Studios, “Trophy Wife” showcases the band’s talent for fusing infectious hooks with a driveable rhythm. And it's all topped off with the laid back Interpol-esque vocals of singer Niall Clancy.
In terms of subject matter, “Trophy Wife” doesn’t pull any punches, recalling a tale of misguided love and heartbreak: “It’s about being in a relationship with someone for all the wrong reasons," the band says.
"He was drawn in by her looks and she stamped on his heart. We wanted to evoke these emotions in the listener be it good or bad.”
With this latest release, Slow Riot join the ranks of Eagulls and Savages at the forefront of a new breed of bands fusing danceable beats with dark-pop sentiments.
“Trophy Wife” is released on April 15 via Straight Lines Are Fine.
