Slonk goes punk on new lo-fi gem "I'm Pursuing A Career Outside Of Conveyancing"
Slonk has announced a new seven-track EP and shared deliciously scuzzy lead single "I'm Pursuing A Career Outside Of Conveyancing".
Thick waves of cascading fuzz and ramshackle riffs set the backdrop for Slonk's vox - it's a touch meatier than previous offerings, with the folky splashes on "Jane's Boots" jettisoned in favour of ragged punk scratches, scrapes, and scrawls. It's rough but it's buoyed with big heart - it's still very much a Slonk number, with ripples of sincerity weaving between every strum and beat.
"I recorded a new EP the other weekend which I'm going to release on 1 December," explains Slonk's Joe Sherrin. "Most of the songs are about how I feel like I'm wasting my life working in admin jobs and 1 December is when my notice ends and I get to leave my admin job. It's a little different from the stuff I've previously released, more akin to the punkier live shows. It's fairly lofi; I used one mic to record everything, originally intending the recordings to be demos for another album but liked them so much I'm just gonna release it as a fun EP."
The EP was written, performed, produced, recorded, and "mastered" (his quotes, not ours) by Sherrin in his bedroom. Samuel Bedford has created the artwork.
