Shout Out Louds detail fifth album and share marvellous lead track "Jumbo Jet"
Swedish four-piece Shout Out Louds have announced fifth record Ease My Mind and shared the heart-stoppingly beautiful lead single "Jumbo Jet".
"Jumbo Jet" is Shout Out Louds at their finest, with ribbons of dreamy indie gold woven through pulsing rock rhythms. It's imbued with a strident sense of freedom and hope - that 'jumbo jet' title really makes itself known in the music, with cloud-buffed vocals and strands of piano trickling from the heavens.
"I was afraid of flying (I still am sometimes, unfortunately) and would pop all kinds of pills before crossing the Atlantic," says frontman Adam Olenius. "But when I found the love of my life living on the other side of the planet, I had to get over it somehow. I started learning everything about planes: all the models, engines, airports - all the nerd stuff. The Jumbo Jet (Boeing 747) came to be my favorite one. Consider the title an homage to Joe Sutter and all aeronautical engineers. May we never fall from the sky."
Ease My Mind was recorded in Stockholm over winter - multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Bebban Stenborg notes that it's "not the most obvious place to make sunset rock'... I suppose that’s the power of escapism."
"Ease My Mind celebrates music as a means of escape, a need to take a break from feeling petrified with fear," Olenius and Stenborg explain. "The world is a different place now than it was in the beginning of the 2000s. We didn’t grow up very aware of political messages in music and probably didn’t feel much of an urgent need to understand the world around us, in that sense. However, that has changed over the years. The world has seemed extremely dystopic and frail for quite a while now, and having children and getting older forces you to open your eyes to issues more devastating than heartbreak and feeling lost. But in our music, we still allow ourselves to address things the way we always have: through emotions rather than analysis. Ease My Mind is a lot about that for us."
Shout Out Louds have confirmed a new run of North American shows later this year - find out more.
