Sheila Carlito is ready for more than just a reality check on slick new single "Highway 95"
The glistening folk-influenced RnB track is the second single to be lifted from this rising artist’s forthcoming debut album.
Having been comfortable telling his story through the lenses and voices of other artists, one day something changed for songwriter Andrew Diaz. He wanted his words to be heard and his experiences to be shared through his project, one that didn’t come with compromise, one that he could control. Thus, Sheila Carlito was born.
“I am merely the brain and the author who doesn’t care for the attention and prefers expressing from the shadows,” Diaz explains, “[but] Sheila is the light that exposes it all.” Having released his impressive debut EP When a Flower Dies, It Never Feels Afraid in 2018, this year the challenge is an album. “Highway 95” follows the emotive first cut “Human Is The Reason”.
““Highway 95” is just about wake up calls: physical, mental, psychological and spiritual,” Diaz tells us. “I feel like the norm in this generation is to be an overthinker; I know I am... but sometimes the wake up calls are necessary not just for a slap of reality, but for a shift of perspective.”
Just a taste of what's to come on the full-length record Glitter, which is due for release later this summer, the Sheila Carlito project takes escapism to another level.
Perfectly pairing stripped back acoustics with his dulcet tones and a relaxed beat, Diaz is certainly kicking overthinking out in favour for this all-together more chilled outlook of actually opening your eyes to what's going on around you.
