The project of South London based singer, producer (and general hoarder of talent) Guy Baron, Semi Precious creates mini tracks of eerie, atmospheric pop by combining two instrumental samples, vocals, melodies and lyrics per track.
Focusing on how a song can be reincarnated and reinvented, Semi Precious intertwines emotional vocals and masterful editing to build stunningly strange and alluring melodies. “Shaky Skies”, Baron’s current release, is a solemn ode to isolation with affecting, delicate vocals leading a serene mix of piano-based backing tracks. Mirroring the sense of solitude built by the combination of slow paced, melancholic instrumental choices, Baron’s vocals pace unevenly throughout “Shaky Skies”, often appearing to have disappeared completely.
If “Shaky Skies” is any indication of what else might be to come from the Semi Precious project, Baron’s unique mixture of techniques and stunning vocals will continue to create mesmerizing, unforgettable pop.
